El pasado fin de semana los alumnos y alumnas de El Centro Inglés, tras clasificarse en las rondas previas disputadas a nivel provincial, tuvieron el privilegio de representar a nuestra ciudad y a Andalucía en la Fase Final del Torneo Johan Cruyff, para enfrentarse a equipos llegados de todas partes de España. Una grandísima responsabilidad en la que pusieron de manifiesto no sólo su alto nivel futbolístico en la competición, sino también el compromiso, respeto, educación y valores del espíritu deportivo que manifestaron en todo momento, ganándose la empatía y apoyo de los organizadores, voluntarios del torneo y de gran parte de los aficionados allí presentes en las gradas, que acabaron animándoles como si fuesen sus propios equipos.
En lo que respecta al campeonato, los chicos estuvieron muy cerca de clasificarse a las semifinales. Se quedaron a tan sólo un gol de lograrlo, tras imponerse a equipos como Barcelona o Vendrell, al cual se le venció por goleada y realizando uno de los mejores partidos de esta edición.
Por su parte, las chicas siguen haciendo historia tras lograr de nuevo meterse en la final. Una final cuya derrota llegó por la gran nobleza que tuvieron al encajar un gol en una jugada en la que la atacante rival estaba en el suelo quejándose de un golpe recibido. El balón seguía en juego y aprovecharon la situación ante el desconcierto de nuestras chicas, que estaban más pendientes de la jugadora lesionada que del propio partido.
El logro deportivo ya estaba alcanzado después de clasificarnos en semifinales en la tanda de penaltis. Subcampeonas de España. Un éxito más por parte de nuestro equipo femenino, tras el logrado en fútbol sala en la Liga Led. Un broche de oro para una temporada espléndida que seguro servirá de inspiración para futuras generaciones amantes del fútbol.
Last weekend The English Centre pupils, after qualifying in the preliminary rounds played at regional level, had the privilege of representing our city and Andalusia in the Final Phase of the Johan Cruyff Tournament, going head-to-head with teams from all over Spain. A huge responsibility in which they showed not only their high level of football in the competition, but also the commitment, respect, education, and values of sportsmanship that they always demonstrated, earning the empathy and support of the organisers, tournament volunteers and a large part of the fans present in the stands, who ended up cheering them on as if they were their own teams.
As far as the championship is concerned, the boys came very close to qualifying for the semi-finals. They were just one goal away from doing so, after beating teams such as Barcelona and Vendrell, which they beat by a landslide and playing one of the best games of this edition.
For their part, the girls continue to make history after once again reaching the final. A final whose defeat came by the great nobility that they had to concede a goal in a play in which the rival attacker was on the ground complaining of a blow received. The ball was still in play, and they took advantage of the situation to the bafflement of our girls, who were more concerned about the injured player than the match itself.
The sporting achievement had already been reached after qualifying for the semi-finals in the penalty shoot-out. Runners-up of Spain. One more success for our women’s team, after the one achieved in futsal in the Led League. A golden brooch for a splendid season that will surely serve as an inspiration for future generations of football lovers.
