The families of Reception and Year 1 have taken part in the Read Write Inc. Phonics parents’ workshop this week, delivered by Ms. ODonnell, IC Coordinator for EY and Y1.
This workshop has been specifically designed to build an alliance with families as partners in education to help deliver the reading objectives of RWI beyond the classroom.
With this workshop, families have obtained greater awareness about the process of early reading and have learnt how to support their children correctly in these early reading steps.
At the English Centre, we know that the family’s role in early literacy is vital. By nurturing a love for reading by creating a positive attitude towards phonics, by providing a supportive environment, and actively engaging in what their children have already learnt at school, families give children a strong signal about the importance of reading.
Families have learnt a little bit more about the method we use for teaching phonics in English, how to use some of the resources that we use in the classroom and have gone away with a whole new set of tools and strategies to use at home.
We hope that this will be the beginning of a positive interchange which will benefit our youngest students on their exciting journey to reading.
