Year 4´s topic this term is Healthy Bodies. FRD, also known as Food Revolution Day led by the famous chef Jamie Oliver was enjoyed by the children this year. It took place on Friday 16th June and the aim was to break the Guiness World Record to get thousands of classes around the globe involved in a unique attempt to break the world record for the largest-ever cooking lesson.
And we did it! At 3pm, 4EPO A and B came together to watch the live streaming of the cooking class online. The room was filled with excitement as we listened to the fun facts about vegetables and watched the chef make the dish, before cheering loudly when we heard the presenter say that children in Spain were watching! ´That could be us Mrs Springer,´the children said.
This has inspired the children to learn more about nutritional food and the benefits on their bodies. They have taken a real interest in learning and researching more about their bodies and cooking and this links brilliantly with their Literacy work as they are writing a non-fiction book all about healthy bodies.
Also, Year 4 were lucky enough to go to Los Torrunos for a Multi-Activity day. Everyone was able to either learn or practice a skill. For a lot of the children this was their first experience with many of the activities and they truly embraced the challenges. The children all participated in archery, rock climbing and orienteering with orienteering and rock climbing prevailing as the most popular sports. It was really fun and an awesome experience that helped reinforce their Healthy Bodies topic.
