Esta semana hemos tenido el privilegio de asistir a una formación impartida por el SailGP GBR TEAM en materia de medio ambiente y cambio climático.
El equipo británico de vela de la clase 50 foiling catamarans, pretende hacer algo más que competir; en sus propias palabras, quieren cuidar el terreno de juego en el que compiten. Con este fin, imparten formaciones en materia de Medio Ambiente en algunos centros de aquellos países a los que les lleva la competición…
Así, uno de los más prestigiosos componentes de este equipo, Rich Mason, nos ha mostrado la modernísima embarcación con la que competirá el equipo británico en Cádiz estos días y ha contestado amablemente a las numerosas preguntas que nuestros alumnos de YEAR 1 han formulado.
A continuación, el responsable de formación de esta iniciativa nos ha mostrado la importancia de las praderas de fanerógamas marinas en la reducción del CO2 ambiental y cómo recuperar estas praderas puede ayudar a combatir el cambio climático en todo el mundo.
Finalmente, para mostrar cómo hacen ellos para regenerar estas praderas, los alumnos han fabricado unas «bombas de semillas» con sustrato, harina, agua y semillas de flores, que posteriormente plantaremos en nuestro huerto para ver crecer nuestro trabajo.
Un jornada diferente y muy interesante en la que aprender sobre vela, océanos y medio ambiente…
This week we had the privilege of attending a training provided by the SailGP GBR TEAM on environment and climate change.
The British sailing team of the 50 foiling catamaran class aims to do more than just compete; in their own words, they want to take care of the pitch on which they compete. To this end, they provide training in the field of the Environment in some schools of those countries to which the competition takes them…
Consequently, one of the most prestigious members of this team, Rich Mason, has shown us the very modern boat with which the British team will compete in Cádiz these days and has kindly answered the numerous questions that our YEAR 1 pupils have asked.
Next, the head of training of this initiative has shown us the importance of marine phanerogams meadows in reducing environmental CO2 and how recovering these ocean floor can help combat climate change around the world.
Finally, to show how they do to regenerate these ocean floors, the pupils have made «seed pumps» with substratum, flour, water, and flower seeds, which we will later plant in our garden to see our work grows.
A different and very interesting day in which to learn about sailing, oceans, and the environment…
