Erasmus Sustainability Project

We were delighted to host staff and pupils from Instituto Bonifacio VIII near Rome over the last few days. They have been visiting Spain as part of their Erasmus + KA122 Project on sustainability focusing specifically on clean air and water.

On Tuesday we welcomed our visitors to school for an exchange of projects, finding out more about their school and their research into the effects of covid on air pollution. We shared our sustainable classroom project with them. In the afternoon Year 2 joined our guests at the honey and bee museum “Rancho Cortesano” to find out all about how important bees and insects are to our ecosystem, how biodiversity is essential and how a bee colony works. There was a chance to wear a bee keepers outfit and visit the hives and to make candles out of bee’s wax.

On Wednesday our Year 4 pupils hosted our guests at the Playa de la Muralla for a beach clean. We were lucky enough to have a visit from some investigative scientists from the University if Cadiz who specialise in the study of microplastics and explain them in detail to the pupils and highlighted the threat to our environment that they represent. There was also plenty of time play football together and hang out and make friends.

It has been fantastic to meet a new school that, like El Centro Inglés, is so committed to sustainability and to Erasmus projects. We hope it is the start of lots of future collaborations.
