Los alumnos de Stage 1 recibieron ayer una visita online especial de la Doctora Sheila Kanani, recientemente galardonada con la MBE (Orden del Mérito) por su trabajo en educación como física para la Real Sociedad Astronómica de Gran Bretaña. Hemos estado hablando de nuestro interés común: el espacio exterior, el sistema solar y los planetas, el tema en el que estamos trabajando actualmente en clase. Nuestros estudiantes ya habían preparado algunas preguntas para nuestra experta: «¿De qué están hechos los planetas y las estrellas?» «¿Por qué no se mueve el Sol?» (¡descubrimos que se mueve muy rápido!) y «¿qué comen los astronautas en el espacio?». ¡Incluso tuvimos la oportunidad de agregar algo de educación física y matemáticas, dando pasos gigantes como astronautas en la Luna o contando cómo lanzar un cohete desde 20 a 0!
Kanani es un modelo conocido a seguir por las niñas que piensan trabajar en el campo científico, y su entusiasmo fue realmente inspirador. Estamos orgullosos de que nuestros alumnos lo hayan hecho tan bien y de que hayan podido ver, de primera mano, lo que es conocer a un verdadero científico de tanto renombre. ¡Fue un gran éxito!
Yesterday in Stage One, the students received a special online visit from Doctor Sheila Kanani, recently awarded the MBE (Order of Merit) for her work as in education as a physicist for the Royal Astronomical Society of Great Britain. We have been talking about our common interest: outer space, the solar system and the planets, the theme we are currently working on in class. Our students had already prepared some questions to ask our expert, like: “What are planets and stars made of?” “Why doesn’t the sun move?” (we found out it moves really fast!) and “what do astronauts eat in Space?”. We even had a chance to add in some p.e. and maths, taking giant steps like astronauts on the moon and counting back like launching a rocket from 20 to 0!
Dr. Kanani is a well-known role model for girls thinking of working in the scientific field and her enthusiasm was really inspiring. We are proud that our students did so well and that they could see, first hand, what it’s like to meet a real scientist of such renown. It was a great success!
