A Francisco, Leyre, Hugo y los demás niños y niñas de la Unidad de Pediatría del Hospital de Jerez y especialmente al más pequeñito, Yael.
Este pasado martes compartimos con ellos una mañana de sus vidas muy especial. Aprendimos de ellos una importante lección de vida.
A veces miramos atrás y en más de una ocasión se nos ha caído la sonrisa por pequeñas cosas que nos han parecido un mundo, mientras est@s niñ@s tienen siempre la sonrisa colgada de sus sueños y viven sonriendo y dando fuerzas a todos los adultos que les rodean.
Hemos aprendido de ellos y hemos regresado al Colegio con unas enormes ganas de volver a compartir con todos ellos aunque solo sea una mañana más.
El Departamento de Ciencias de El Centro Inglés ha establecido un voluntariado en colaboración con la Asociación Española Contra el Cáncer, en diferentes hospitales de la provincia donde hemos llevado y seguiremos llevando nuestra ilusión por la ciencia a modo de practicas divertidas. Fabricamos «mocos de colores», vimos auténticos fantasmas, llovieron colores, creamos arcoiris y tratamos de escribir como el famoso Leonardo daVinci…¡qué difícil!
Acabamos con las manos de color azul, rojo, o verde y como dice el poeta César Brandon nuestros voluntarios «volvieron con el alma sonriendo».
Agradecemos a Rafa, Maika y Sandra de la AECC, el dejarnos vivir esta experiencia y el engacharnos a ella para muchos años. A nuestros alumnos de secundaria María, Sofía, Fernando, Álvaro, Carlos, Vito y Pablo, el esfuerzo para preparar y realizar las prácticas. A los padres y madres de los niños y niñas hospitalizados el permitirnos compartir esas horas con «sus pequeños héroes» y especialmente a esos héroes por hacernos ver que siempre existe un futuro y una ilusión por la que luchar y seguir viviendo.
Por cierto tenemos decenas de chicos y chicas esperando su oportunidad para ser voluntario. Mil gracias a todos ellos. Desde el Departamento de Ciencias intentaremos que todos podais vivir lo que han vivido vuestros compañeros.

Last Tuesday, we spent a morning in their very special lives. We learned a very important life lesson from them. We sometimes look back, and on more than one occasion, lost our smile for small matter which seemed big at the time, meanwhile these boys and girls always show a smile hanging from their dreams and live smiling and sharing their strength with all the adults around them. We have learned from them, and we returned to School very eager to share more time with them, even if it’s only another morning.
The English Centre Science Department has stablished a voluntary collaboration with the Spanish Association Against Cancer, in different hospitals of the province, where we took and will continue taking our enthusiasm for science through fun activities. We made “coloured mucus”, we saw real ghosts, it rained colours, we coloured rainbows and we even tried to write as the famous Leonardo daVinci…so difficult!
Our hands ended up blue, red or green, and as the poet César Brandon once said, “they returned with a smiling soul”.
We would like to thank Rafa, Maika and Sandra from AECC, for allowing us to live this experience and hooking us for the rest of our lives. Our Secondary pupils María, Sofía, Fernando, Álvaro, Carlos, Vito and Pablo, for their efforts in preparing and carrying out these activities. To the mothers and fathers of the hospitalised boys and girls for allowing us to share these hours with “their little heroes”, and especially to those heroes for showing us there is always a future and a reason to fight for and continue living.
By the way, there are many boys and girls waiting to have the opportunity of being a volunteer. Thank you so much to all of them. The Science Department will try to ensure you will all have the chance to experience what your peers have experienced.
