“Hola soy Nico Lucero, para aquellos que no me conozcan soy antiguo alumno del colegio entre los años 1997-2004 y desde el año pasado presidente de ECI Alumni. Desde que dejé el colegio he estado siempre muy vinculado con él por varias motivos. Tengo dos hermanos pequeños que finalizaron sus estudios aquí, he participado activamente en todas las actividades de Eisteddfod, he organizado talleres con el equipo de fútbol americano de El Puerto y, por qué no, porque vivo aquí al lado y veo el colegio todos los días.
Profesores y mucha gente ha dicho siempre que los alumnos son muy afortunados de asistir a este colegio y tengo que deciros que es completamente cierto. No solo por el hecho de salir de aquí dominando el inglés sino también por la formación y los valores recibidos tanto en el plano académico como en el plano personal. Una de las grandes características de este centro es que no forman meros estudiantes, forman personas.
No es que yo fuera un estudiante ejemplar, los profesores aquí presentes pueden confirmarlo, la frase “Nico es muy buen chico, pero es un poco vago” me acompañó durante todo mi periplo en el colegio. Pero lo que es cierto también es que aquí aprendí otras muchas cosas más que inglés, matemáticas, ciencias y otras asignaturas.
Aprendí que los compañeros de los que te rodeas aquí son compañeros con los que vas a estar el resto de tu vida, acabes donde acabes cuando salgas del colegio. Buena culpa de esto lo tiene el Club Deportivo. Todos sabemos de los éxitos deportivos que este centro ha cosechado, pero hay algo no visible que mucha gente desconoce. Los vínculos que se crean en los diferentes equipos de la buena oferta deportiva del colegio son irrompibles. En estos equipos aprendimos que valores como el trabajo en equipo, la comprensión, la tolerancia y el esfuerzo son perfectamente aplicables a la vida cotidiana. Nuestro futuro personal es como un partido, a veces se ganará, a veces se perderá pero de lo que siempre tenemos que estar orgullosos es de participar en ella rodeado de la gente que nos importa y que daría todo por nosotros de la misma forma que nosotros lo daríamos por ellos.
Así que recomiendo a todos que utilicéis las actividades deportivas del colegio, así como otras actividades culturales del mismo (La banda de música, el coro, el aula de artes) como una buena forma de mantener siempre en contacto a esas personas que como he dicho antes, son las que te van a acompañar el resto de tu vida.

“Hello, good afternoon everybody, for those who doesn’t know me I am Nico Lucero, former student of the school between 1997-2004 (4th EPO- 4th ESO) and for the last year president of ECI Alumni. Since I left the school I have always been linked to in many ways. I have two younger siblings who finished their studies here, I have participated in all the Eisteddfod events, I have organized American Football lessons to all the years… and also because I live very close to the school and I see it every day.
Teachers and many people say that the pupils are very lucky to attend to The English Centre and I have to admit, as a former student, that this is absolutely true. This is not only because of learning the English language which opens many gates when trying to build a professional future but also because of the values received on both an academic and professional level. In this school they form people, not only students.
Maybe I wasn’t the best student of my year, many of the teachers that are here with us today may agree with me (The quote “Nico is a very good kid, but sometimes he’s a little bit lazy” was repeated year after year to my parents when they came to the meetings with the tutors). But the point here is that I not only learned English, Maths, Science and other subjects in this school, I learned so many other things that are just as important.
I learned that the friends you make here are friends that are going to be with you for the rest of your lives, it doesn’t matter where you end up working or living, the bonds created in this school are bigger than any distance and stronger than the passage of time. One of the reasons for this happening is the Sports Club. We all know about the achievements this school has made over the years, but there’s some things that you cannot see and put in a trophy shelf. Those bonds created in the different teams and sports are unbreakable. In those teams we learnt that values such as teamwork, understanding, tolerance or effort are values applicable to the day to day in life. Our personal future it’s like a game, sometimes you will win, sometimes you will lose but we always have to take pride in the game and play it with the people that look after us the same way we look after them.
So this is why I encourage you to use the sports clubs at school (and also other cultural activities such as the music band, the choir or the arts) as a way to keep in touch with each other when you finish here. Dinners and parties are also a good way to do it but let’s admit it you can do that any weekend.
