Posting a letter has been a marvellous way to incorporate learning before, during and
after the visit itself. We have been working hard making our cards, talking about how a
postal service works, understanding what a stamp, envelope and address is really for.
Once on the way to the postbox, we can prove how much we know about the rules of
the road: staying safely away from the kerb, looking right and left when we cross the
zebra crossing and respecting the figure of the police officer, for example. Not to forget
the physical activity of getting to the postbox itself, focusing on what we see along the
way and how to behave when we are out and about in public spaces.
Most of all, it has been a lot of fun, taking Dewi with us on a little adventure, being with
our teachers and friends in our local area, seeing real police officers at work. Early
Years are most certainly ready for more visits soon!
