Como ya sabéis, uno de nuestros valores claves en El Centro Inglés es que nuestra comunidad asuma responsabilidad social y medioambiental. Debido a los incansables esfuerzos del Centro y de los alumnos del Aula de Sostenibilidad, fuimos galardonados con la Bandera Verde y esta labor de convertirnos en Eco Escuela fue reconocida globalmente. Este mes, hemos tenido asambleas online donde nuestros alumnos y alumnas han oído directamente de Rocío y Lucía, dos miembros del Aula, sobre lo que se ha logrado hacer con el proyecto hasta hoy y por qué es de suma importancia para la futura sobrevivencia de nuestro planeta, que todos pongamos de nuestra parte en cuanto a lo que consumimos y cómo podemos crear menos basura. A los alumnos les ha fascinado aprender sobre las islas de basura en nuestros océanos y esto les ha fomentado a preguntar más en el chat durante la asamblea.
Al final de la asamblea, Mr Olías ha invitado a los alumnos a completar un cuestionario para medir su huella de carbono: WWF Footprint Calculator y les ha animado a hablar con vosotros en casa sobre lo que habían aprendido: el por qué es imprescindible que reduzcamos nuestro consumo de plástico, que reutilicemos los envases cuando podamos y que reciclemos todo lo que se pueda reciclar.

As you will know, one of our key values at The English Centre is that our community is socially and environmentally responsible. Through the tireless efforts of the pupils of the Aula de Sostenibilidad, you will be aware that we were awarded the Green Flag this year and these efforts to become a green school were recognised globally. This month, we have been holding online assemblies where our students have been hearing directly from Rocío and Lucía, two members of the Aula, about what the project has achieved so far and why it is so important for our future survival as a planet, to take responsibility for what we consume and how we can create less litter. The students were fascinated to hear about the garbage patches in our oceans and this prompted them to ask some great questions in the online chat during the assembly.
At the end of the assembly, Mr Olías invited the students to complete a questionnaire to measure their carbon footprint: WWF Footprint Calculator and encouraged them to talk to you at home about what they learnt: why it is imperative that we reduce our plastic consumption, that we reuse containers whenever we can and that we recycle everything that can be recycled.
