Celebrating the Legacy of Linda M. Randell, Together as One Family
On 25 September, the entire El Centro Inglés community came together to celebrate one of the most special dates in our school calendar: the day dedicated to our founder, Mrs Linda M. Randell. It was a day filled with emotion, memories, learning, art and community spirit, giving us the opportunity to reflect on our origins and celebrate the values that continue to guide our educational project more than half a century later.
A Day to Remember Who We Are
The celebration began with a special whole-school assembly first thing in the morning, where students, staff, families and guests had the opportunity to learn more about Linda M. Randell and the extraordinary legacy she left to generations of students.
Through her innovative vision of education, her international outlook and her unwavering commitment to people, Linda laid the foundations of a school that has always looked towards the future while remaining true to the values that make it unique. During the assembly, we reflected on how those founding principles continue to be present in every classroom, every project and every experience enjoyed by our students today.
An Interview Connecting Past, Present and Future
One of the highlights of the day was an interview conducted by students from HB and HG with Mr and Mrs Randell, who shared personal memories, family stories and reflections on the school’s development over the years.
Their words helped students gain a deeper understanding not only of the history of El Centro Inglés but also of the importance of preserving a culture built on family continuity, excellence, inclusivity, internationalism and a strong sense of community.
Our Youngest Students Take Centre Stage
The children of Early Years also played a prominent role in the celebrations.
Songs, dances and countless displays of affection filled the day with joy and spontaneity. The children also prepared beautiful drawings, messages and creative projects especially for the Randell family, creating a wonderful tribute to our founder.
Their work perfectly reflected one of the values Linda always championed: the importance of educating from the heart.
The Announcement of the New School Council
The ceremony also provided an opportunity to recognise student leadership through the official appointment of this year’s Prefects.
These students will form part of the new School Council, representing the voices of their peers and contributing actively to school life throughout the academic year.
Their appointment symbolises El Centro Inglés’ commitment to participation, responsibility and leadership development from an early age.
The Launch of the LMR Awards
Another major announcement was the introduction of the eagerly anticipated LMR Awards, an initiative designed to honour the spirit and values of our founder.
The awards are divided into three categories:
- LMR Scholarship Award
- LMR Travel Award
- LMR Community Award
These awards recognise students who demonstrate academic excellence, a global outlook and a commitment to serving others, qualities that defined Linda M. Randell’s personal and professional life.
Art, Poetry and Creativity
The celebration also included moments dedicated to another of our founder’s great passions: the arts.
Poetry readings, performances and artistic expressions allowed students to showcase their creativity and highlighted how the arts continue to play a vital role in personal and emotional development within our school community.
Guests Who Enriched the Day
We were privileged to welcome several special guests.
Mr and Mrs Williams, visiting from Wales, shared Welsh traditions with our students and explored the deep historical and cultural links between Wales and Spain, while also reflecting on the Welsh roots of our founder.
We were also delighted to welcome Alfonso Moresco, an ECI Alumni, who gave an inspiring account of his time at El Centro Inglés and the impact that his education here has had on his personal and professional journey.
Their contributions helped students understand how the values of our school transcend generations and continue to make a lasting impact long after graduation.
A Closing Ceremony Full of Meaning
The day concluded with a symbolic closing ceremony featuring the raising of both the El Centro Inglés flag and the Eco-School flag, accompanied by the Prefects.
During this final act, students shared inspiring quotations from Linda M. Randell, reminding everyone of the importance of curiosity, effort, responsibility and an openness to the world.
A Celebration That Brings Generations Together
Founder’s Day is also an opportunity to bring together different generations of the ECI family. As is now tradition, former students who are today parents of current pupils joined us for a special afternoon tea together with their children.
This intergenerational gathering perfectly reflects the essence of El Centro Inglés as an International Family School: a place where relationships endure over time and where many families remain part of the community long after their own school days have ended.
Seeing former students share memories of their years at ECI while their children enjoy that same experience today is one of the most moving aspects of the celebration. It is a powerful reminder that Linda M. Randell’s legacy continues to thrive from one generation to the next and that the values of the school continue to build a genuine community united by a strong sense of belonging.
Filled with conversations, memories and reunions, the afternoon tea became a heartfelt tribute to the shared history of the many families who have been, and continue to be, part of the ECI family.

Founder’s Day is much more than a celebration. It is an opportunity to pause, reflect with gratitude and remember why El Centro Inglés exists.
Since 1969, Linda M. Randell’s vision has evolved into a truly International Family School, where generations of students have learned to think globally, act with integrity and build futures full of possibility.
Every year, this celebration reminds us that the greatest tribute we can pay to our founder is to continue living the values that inspired the creation of our school and to keep building, together, a learning community that embraces the future while never forgetting its roots.

El pasado 25 de septiembre, toda la comunidad de El Centro Inglés se unió para celebrar una de las fechas más especiales de nuestro calendario escolar: el día dedicado a nuestra fundadora, Mrs Linda M. Randell. Una jornada llena de emoción, recuerdos, aprendizaje, arte y participación que nos permitió reflexionar sobre nuestros orígenes y reconocer los valores que siguen guiando nuestro proyecto educativo más de medio siglo después.
Un día para recordar quiénes somos
La celebración comenzó con una asamblea especial a primera hora de la mañana en la que alumnos, profesores, familias e invitados tuvieron la oportunidad de conocer mejor la figura de Linda M. Randell y el extraordinario legado que dejó a generaciones de estudiantes.
Desde su visión innovadora de la educación, su carácter internacional y su firme compromiso con las personas, Linda sentó las bases de un colegio que siempre ha mirado al futuro sin perder de vista los valores que lo hacen único. Durante la asamblea recordamos cómo aquellos principios fundacionales continúan presentes en cada aula, en cada proyecto y en cada experiencia que viven nuestros alumnos.
Entrevista que conecta pasado, presente y futuro
Uno de los momentos más especiales de la jornada fue la entrevista realizada por los alumnos de HB y HG a Mr y Mrs Randell, quienes compartieron recuerdos personales, anécdotas familiares y reflexiones sobre la evolución del colegio a lo largo de los años.
Sus palabras permitieron a los alumnos comprender mejor no solo la historia de El Centro Inglés, sino también la importancia de mantener viva una cultura basada en la continuación familiar, excelencia, la cercanía, la internacionalidad y el sentido de comunidad.
Los más pequeños, protagonistas del homenaje
Los alumnos de Early Years tuvieron también un papel muy destacado en la celebración.
Canciones, bailes y numerosas muestras de cariño llenaron el día de alegría y espontaneidad. Además, los niños prepararon preciosos dibujos, mensajes y trabajos creativos especialmente dirigidos a la familia Randell, un gesto fantástico de celebración.
Sus creaciones reflejaron a la perfección uno de los valores más importantes que siempre defendió nuestra fundadora: la importancia de educar desde el corazón.
El anuncio del nuevo School Council
La ceremonia sirvió también para reconocer el liderazgo estudiantil con el nombramiento oficial de los Prefects de cada curso.
Estos alumnos formarán parte del nuevo School Council, representando la voz de sus compañeros y contribuyendo activamente a la vida del colegio durante el presente curso académico.
Su nombramiento simboliza el compromiso de El Centro Inglés con la participación, la responsabilidad y el desarrollo del liderazgo desde edades tempranas.
Nacen los LMR Awards
Otro de los grandes anuncios del día fue el lanzamiento de los tan esperados LMR Awards, una iniciativa creada para honrar el espíritu y los valores de nuestra fundadora.
Estas becas se estructuran en tres categorías:
- LMR Scholarship Award
- LMR Travel Award
- LMR Community Award
Con ellos se pretende reconocer a aquellos alumnos que destaquen por su excelencia académica, su apertura al mundo y su compromiso con los demás, valores que definieron la trayectoria personal y profesional de Linda M. Randell.
Arte, poesía y creatividad
La celebración incluyó además momentos dedicados a otra de las grandes pasiones de nuestra fundadora: el arte.
Poemas, lecturas y distintas expresiones artísticas permitieron a los alumnos compartir su creatividad y demostrar cómo el arte continúa siendo una herramienta fundamental para el desarrollo personal y emocional dentro de nuestra comunidad educativa.
Invitados que enriquecieron la jornada
Tuvimos el privilegio de contar con la presencia de invitados muy especiales.
Mr y Mrs Williams, llegados desde Gales, compartieron con nuestros alumnos las tradiciones galesas y explicaron los profundos vínculos históricos y culturales existentes entre Gales y España, recordando además los orígenes galeses de nuestra fundadora.
También nos acompañó Alfonso Moresco, ECI Alumni (antiguo alumno de El Centro Inglés), quien ofreció un emotivo testimonio sobre su experiencia en el colegio y el impacto que la formación recibida ha tenido en su trayectoria personal y profesional.
Sus intervenciones ayudaron a nuestros alumnos a comprender cómo los valores del colegio trascienden generaciones y continúan dejando huella mucho después de finalizar la etapa escolar.
Una clausura llena de simbolismo
La jornada concluyó con una ceremonia cargada de significado en la que se realizó el izado de la bandera de El Centro Inglés y de la bandera de Ecoescuela, acompañados por los Prefects.
Durante este acto final compartieron unas inspiradoras palabras de Linda M. Randell que recordaron a todos los presentes la importancia de la curiosidad, el esfuerzo, la responsabilidad y la apertura al mundo.
Una celebración que une generaciones
Founder’s Day es también una oportunidad para reunir a distintas generaciones de la familia ECI. Como ya es tradición, antiguos alumnos que hoy son madres y padres del colegio participaron en una entrañable merienda junto a sus hijos.
Este encuentro intergeneracional refleja a la perfección la esencia de El Centro Inglés como International Family School: un lugar donde los vínculos perduran en el tiempo y donde muchas familias continúan formando parte de la comunidad décadas después de haber sido alumnos.
Ver a antiguos estudiantes compartir recuerdos de su etapa escolar mientras sus propios hijos viven hoy esa misma experiencia es uno de los aspectos más emocionantes de esta celebración. Un momento que demuestra cómo el legado de Linda M. Randell sigue vivo generación tras generación y cómo los valores del colegio continúan construyendo una auténtica comunidad unida por el sentimiento de pertenencia.
Entre conversaciones, anécdotas y reencuentros, la merienda se convirtió en un precioso homenaje a la historia compartida de tantas familias que han formado y siguen formando parte de la gran familia ECI.
Siguiendo el camino de nuestra fundadora
Founder’s Day es mucho más que una celebración. Es una oportunidad para detenernos, mirar atrás con gratitud y recordar por qué existe El Centro Inglés.
Desde 1969, el sueño de Linda M. Randell ha evolucionado hasta convertirse en una auténtica International Family School, donde generaciones de alumnos han aprendido a pensar globalmente, actuar con integridad y construir un futuro lleno de posibilidades.
Cada año, esta celebración nos recuerda que el mejor homenaje que podemos hacer a nuestra fundadora es seguir viviendo los valores que inspiraron la creación de nuestro colegio y continuar construyendo juntos una comunidad educativa que mira al futuro sin olvidar sus raíces.
